Equestrian
Olympic equestrian events began in 1912, when the Olympic Games were held at Stockholm, but it wasn't until 1952 in Helsinki that women were allowed to take part. In fact, equestrian is the only sport in the Games where men and women are viewed as completely equal - rather than competing in separate events, they're allowed to compete against each other.

The three main equestrian events are dressage, eventing and show jumping and, in order to be eligible to take part, all horses have to be at least seven years old and the same nationality as their riders. All equestrian action in 2012 will be taking place at Greenwich Park, in London.

Located only 12 minutes away fro the main stadium and Olympic Village, the leafy green venue is set to be easily accessible and offer a stunning background for the equestrian events.
