Volleyball
The six-a-side game of volleyball, which originated in the US, has been part of the Olympic Games since the Tokyo event in 1964. In addition, since 1996 in Atlanta, beach volleyball has been added to the line-up too. The basic idea of volleyball is to hit a ball over a net, using the hands or any other part of the body, and it's a fast, vigorous and energetic game.

The net height varies slightly depending on whether men or women are playing - it stands at 2.43m high for men and 2.24m high for women.

At the 2012 Olympics, Earl's Court will be hosting the indoor volleyball matches, whereas beach volleyball games will be played amongst the auspicious surrounding of Horse Guards Parade.
